Directions-Take exit 284 (Highland-Alpine) off I-15, and follow SR 92 east for 7.7 miles to the fee station at the mouth of
the canyon. There is a usage fee to enter American Fork Canyon.
This paved road goes from American Fork all the way over the pass by Sundance Ski Resort connecting it to Provo Canyon. During the summer it’s open to vehicles & is a great motorcycle ride, but you will want to wait till winter to hike it with snowshoes when it’s closed from Aspen Grove Trailhead. Snowmobiles are also allowed on the road so be careful with your dogs.
Aspen Grove Trail/Mount Timpanogas/Stewart Falls Trail/Timpooneke Trail

Drive 4.6 miles up the canyon and stay to the right at the fork. Continue another 3.4 miles to the Timpooneke Road/Guard Station. There is a trailhead from the parking lot here that heads south passing Scout Falls, Giant Staircase, Pika Cirque, Timpanogas Basin, Mt Timpanogas, Roberts Horn. Or you could drive another 5 miles from the Guard Station to Alpine Drive to other trailhead. From here the trail heads west past a couple waterfalls 4.7 miles to a junction and Emerald Lake. Hidden Lakes is south of the trail about .7 mile back. From the junction you can turn left 1.6 miles to the summit of Mount Timpanogas from the south. If you keep heading west from the fork turn right at the next fork in .5 mile and take the 2nd left turn in 1.1 miles, .7 mile to the airplane crash.
Head up Alpine Scenic HWY for 4.85 miles and turn left onto American Fork Canyon Rd. Head north for 2.21 miles to Tibble Fork Reservoir, just after the parking lot and restrooms continue east onto the dirt/gravel road. After about 5.18 miles the road will fork to the east. This is Baker Fork Trail and will wind its ways up and over Sandy Baker Pass for 4.12 miles connecting you to SR 220. From here you can go north to Midway or south to Deer Creek Reservoir.
Battle Creek Falls
1.8 miles RT

Turn right onto HWY 146 at the fork from the mouth of the canyon. Drive 4.8 miles south to Pleasant Grove 200-south. Turn left at 2nd east onto Battle Creek Road and go 2 miles past the large water tank to the trailhead at Kiwanis Park at the end of the road. The hike follows along Battle Creek up to Battle Falls. The trail heads northeast on a jeep road, and you will cross a bridge after .5 mile, and will pass a small cave to the waterfall. You can climb around the waterfall for a better view of the canyon. This is the 1.8 mile RT turn-around point, but you can continue on to see some smaller falls and the trail gets steeper.

Canyon Nature Trail

Drive 2.1 miles up the canyon and the trailhead begins on the north side of the road just before the Timpanogas Cave Visitor Center. The trail follows along the American Fork River .2 mile west to the Swinging Bridge Picnic Area.
Drive 4.6 miles up the canyon and turn right at the fork. After another 10.9 miles turn onto Cascade Springs Road intil you see the turnoff for the parking lot. This trail is a maze of boardwalks that makes a .6 mile loop with a bridge in the center.

Dry Creek Trail

15 miles RT

From I-15 take exit 287 and head east for 5.4 miles and turn north onto 5300 West Street for 2 miles through Alpine. Turn right at 600 North .3 mile and left at the intersection. After 1.4 miles take the right fork onto Oak Ridge Drive, and left onto Grove Drive. Follow the road for .2 mile to a dirt road and another .2 mile and park. This hike heads east with numerous stream crossing, and a couple waterfalls. After 2.5 miles you’ll reach a sign for North Mountain Trail leading north. Continue east, and there will be another trail leading to the south which is Box Elder Trail. After a couple miles the trail will turn into an old jeep road. After a total of 4.5 miles you will finally reach the top of the summit with spectacular views all around you. The trail to the north leads you 1.5 miles to the overlook of Silver Lake Flat, and the trail to the south heads to Box Elder Peak. To complete this hike it’s another 3 miles down to Granite Flats Campground just above Tibble Fork Reservoir.
Head up Alpine Scenic HWY for 4.85 miles and turn left onto American Fork Canyon Rd. Head north for 2.21 miles to Tibble Fork Reservoir, just after the parking lot and restrooms continue east onto the dirt/gravel road. After another 4 miles of rough rocky terrain turn east driving through a creek onto FR 194, and drive about 1.7 miles and you will reach Forest Lake. This is a very rough 4WD road that is rugged and thin I would not recommend it if you have a nice Ford. There are a couple nice camping spots here, but i'm not sure how the fishing is. I do know if you walk around the lake you will see salamanders all along the shore.
Grove Creek Trail
8.5 miles Loop

Turn right onto HWY 146 at the fork from the mouth of the canyon. Drive 4 miles south to Pleasant Grove 500 north (Grove Creek Drive) and turn left (east). The trailhead is at the mouth of the canyon. This steep rocky trail will lead you to a lookout of Utah Valley. After 1.5 miles you will cross a bridge which is a turn around spot for most or you can make the loop back to Battle Creek Falls Trailhead. If you continue on the trail will eventually meet with Timpanooke Road.
Head up Alpine Scenic HWY for 4.85 miles and turn left onto American Fork Canyon Rd. Head north for 2.21 miles to Tibble Fork Reservoir, just after the parking lot and restrooms continue east onto the dirt/gravel road. After about 6.4 miles the road will become extremely rocky. I would only recommend ATV’s or Jeeps from this point on. From here the road will end in 2 miles at a gate on the backside of Snowbird Ski Resort.
Pittsburg Lake Trail
3 miles RT

Head up American Fork Canyon Road to Tibble Fork Reservoir, and continue northeast for about 7 miles to Mineral Basin, and there will be a road that crosses the stream to the trailhead. You'll probably need a GPS to find it N.40.32.942-W.111.35.945. The coordinates for the lake are N.40.33.496-W.111.37.013. There is a cabin here which makes a great camping spot. This trail is very rocky and uphill so make sure your dogs have protection for their feet or they will get injured. This is a great lake to fish at for Brook Trout your guranteed to catch one.
Ridge Trail
23.5 miles One-Way

The trail begins at the Alpine Loop Summit from the large parking area. The trail begins on the north side of the parking lot. The trail gives access to Pine Hollow Trail, Mud Spring Trail, Tibble Fork Trail, East Ridge Trail, and Holman Trail. It’s about 13 miles to the overlook of Forest Lake. It’s .75 mile if you want to hike down to Forest Lake. Continue on the main trail which eventually meets up with the Brighton Lakes.
Silver Lake Flat Reservoir

From Tibble Fork Reservoir drive .9 mile and there will be a turnoff to Horse Trailhead. Continue for another .1 more mile to the dirt road called Silver Lake Flat Road and turn east here. It’s just before the Fee Station for the campground. Drive up this dirt road for .7 mile and you’ll see a 3 car parking spot for Dry Creek Trail on the north side that is 14 miles RT. Continue for another .8 mile and there will be a trail that heads south. Keep on the dirt road and in 1 more mile you’ll reach the lake. 4WD is not needed so cars can make this drive if you swerve around some of the rocks. This is a great place to fish for 12” Rainbow, and extremely popular, but not as crowded as Tibble Fork Reservoir.
Silver Lake Trail

Drive 4.6 miles up the canyon and turn left on North Fork Road/U-144 and go 2.1 miles to Tibble Fork Reservoir. Continue on the paved road north for 1 mile to the dirt road called Silver Lake Flat Road just before the Fee Station for the campground. Drive up this dirt road for .7 mile and you will see a 3 car parking spot for Dry Creek Trail on the north side that is 14 miles RT. Continue for another .8 mile and there will be a trail that heads south. Keep on the dirt road and in 1 more mile you will reach Silver Lake Flat. 4WD is not needed so cars can make this drive if you swerve around some of the rocks. The trailhead is at the northern/east end of the reservoir. The trail passes through little boulders, and is a great hike for your dogs because you will cross over Silver Creek a couple times giving them a chance to get a drink. The trail climbs north uphill pretty much the whole way. After passing a mine dump, some ponds, and several switchbacks, you will finally reach the lake. A lot of the water in the lake was dried up by September, but there were Brook Trout jumping left and right. There were literally hundreds of them, I had hooked a couple within minutes on a gold panther lure.
From I-15 take exit-272 (800 North) head east on 800 North through Orem to the mouth of the canyon. Stay in the left hand lane, which will drop onto HWY-189. Continue up the canyon 7 miles to Scenic Route #92 which is the first left after the tunnel. Sundance is 2 miles up the canyon on the left. From Park City take HWY-248 to HWY-40. Turn south onto HWY-40 towards Heber City. Drive through Heber City and turn right onto Scenic Route 92 and continue 2 miles to Sundance. Ray's Lift gives you over 20 miles of mountain biking that is usually open from May into October.
Tibble Fork Loop Trail

The trailhead is located at the east side of the dam of Tibble Fork Reservoir, but you will have to park before crossing the dam. After 2 miles of hiking turn left at the fork with a sign for 1/2 a mile to reach Mill Canyon Trail. Turn left here at the sign to complete the loop. The trail to the right will continue on to other spur trails and the Great Western Trail.

Take exit 284 off I-15, and follow SR 92 east for 7.7 miles to the fee station at the mouth of the canyon. Drive 4.6 miles up the canyon and turn left on North Fork Road/U-144 and go 2.1 miles more to the reservoir. The road to the reservoir is open year round. Fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, swimming, and hiking are all popular. This road also has several picnic areas with bathrooms. Once at the reservoir you can drive over the dam at the south end and park at the trailhead of Tibble Fork Trail and Ridge Trail, which is 4 miles RT. There is a large parking lot on the north end that is usually packed full, and bathrooms available. Granite Flat campground is just above Tibble Fork towards Silver Lake Flat.
Timpanogas Cave
3 Miles RT

Directions-Drive 2.2 miles up American Fork Canyon to the Visitor Center on your right. The path is paved and restrooms are at the bottom and top. The trail is steep with no guardrails. There is another easy trail on the north side of the road called the Canyon Nature Trail.
Drive 1.2 miles past the turnoff to Tibble Fork Reservoir and park on the right just before the Mutual Dell turnoff. The trail is on the left side of the road across the street from the gate.
